We’ll pick you up from your hotel early in the morning in a private van, and travel through the Andes Mountains. Breakfast is in the charming town of Paucartambo. You can enjoy a hot drink, eggs, pancakes, juice, and more. Breakfast isn’t included in the price of the tour.
The trip will continue into the Cloud Forest, where the scenery and climate change quickly. In the Cloud Forest, there will be chances to explore and look for wild animals like monkeys and birds, including the bright-red Andean Cock of the Rock. In the late afternoon, we’ll arrive at our lodge in Kosñipata for dinner and some time to relax.
After breakfast, our journey continues into the jungle. Passing through the small towns of Patria and Pilcopata, there will be a chance to stop at a basic pharmacy or shop if needed.
Our boat will be waiting in the port town of Atalaya. The trip down the Madre de Dios River is a beautiful way to enjoy the jungle. After about 25 minutes on the boat, we will hike and visit Machu Wasi Lake, where you’ll search for birds such as the Hoatzin, and try your hand at driving the balsa in the calm water.
After visiting Machu Wasi, we’ll get back in the boat and enjoy the views on the way to Nuevo Eden. Along the way, we’ll be on the lookout for animals on the riverbanks, such as water birds and capybara. After a couple more hours, we’ll arrive close to Nuevo Eden and walk from the riverbank to the Bungalow.
After settling in, and dinner, you’ll set out on a night walk. As the sun sets and day turns to night, you’ll use flashlights to search for tarantulas, snakes, and frogs.
In the morning, after breakfast, we will head out by foot into the jungle. We will hike for about 4 hours through the forest. Throughout the hike, we will search for animals, birds, medicinal plants, and big trees unique to this virgin forest.
When we reach the pristine Quebrada Negra, we’ll set up camp, rest, and swim to cool off. We’ll enjoy a tasty dinner at the campsite. Quebrada Negra or “black stream,” is a small river that gets its name from its dark color due to its shady riverbanks.
Around the area, we will look for red howler monkeys, black spider monkeys, saddleback tamarinds, and many types of birds. This piece of the jungle has no other tourism and is far from any town or people.
After breakfast, we’ll explore the jungle around the riverbanks of the Quebrada Negra, heading upriver in the morning before lunch. After lunch, you’ll have time to relax in hammocks, practice fishing for dinner, and swim in the stream. In the afternoon we’ll head downriver, continuing to search for wildlife.
As the afternoon turns to night, we’ll quietly wait for caimans, insects, and other nighttime critters to emerge. We’ll enjoy dinner at the campsite.
We’ll enjoy one more breakfast at the campsite before walking back to Nuevo Eden, retracing our steps back through the beautiful rainforest.
Arriving at the bungalow, you’ll have some time to settle in, take a shower, explore the town, swim in the swimming hole, or just relax. Lunch will be prepared and served at the bungalow.
In the afternoon, we’ll head to the boat and leave Nuevo Eden, and find a great campsite close to the Hot Springs in Shintuya. Here you’ll enjoy the sunset on the riverbank, swim, and enjoy one last night in the jungle.
Early in the morning, we will visit a parrot clay lick near the campsite. After watching the parrots have their breakfast, we will have ours on the boat. After a few hours on the boat, we will arrive to Atalaya where we will load up the van and make the trip back to Cusco. You’ll be back in Cusco for a hot shower and a late dinner.
