TEN DAYS IN PERU

Peru is a big and beautiful country that spans three unique ecosystems: coast, mountains, and jungle. If you only have 10 days to spend in Peru, you may want some advice about how to plan your time. 

What can I do in 10 days in Peru?  

 If your time is limited to a week and a half, you can still visit a little bit of everything that this beautiful country has to offer.  Most international flights land in Lima, the capital city, which is right on the Pacific Coast. From there you can take a short flight to the capital of the Inca Empire, Cusco. From Cusco, you can visit the Amazon Rainforest. Let’s learn a little more about these places and how you can plan a perfect trip. 
 

Day 1: Arrival in Lima

  • Arrive in Lima, Peru’s capital.
  • Explore the historic city center and enjoy a delicious Peruvian meal.

Day 2: Flight to Cusco

  • Fly to Cusco, the gateway to Machu Picchu and the Amazon.
  • Spend the day acclimating to the altitude by taking it easy and enjoying the city’s charm.

Day 3: Sacred Valley

  • Take a scenic drive to the Sacred Valley of the Incas.
  • Visit Pisac Market, Ollantaytambo, and other archaeological sites.
  • Overnight in the Sacred Valley.

Day 4: Machu Picchu

  • Board an early train to Aguas Calientes, the gateway to Machu Picchu.
  • Explore the awe-inspiring Machu Picchu ruins with a guided tour.
  • Return to Aguas Calientes for the night.

Day 5: Return to Cusco

  • Take a morning train back to Ollantaytambo and then transfer to Cusco.
  • Enjoy free time in Cusco for relaxation or exploring.

Day 6: Cusco to Manu National Park

  • Depart from Cusco early in the morning for a drive to Manu National Park.
  • Experience the transition from the Andes to the Amazon.
  • Arrive at the park’s entrance and check into a jungle lodge.

Days 7-10: Manu National Park Wildlife Expedition

  • Spend four days exploring the rich biodiversity of Manu National Park.
  • Engage in guided wildlife hikes, birdwatching, and boat trips on the Madre de Dios River.
  • Visit oxbow lakes to see giant otters and explore the rainforest’s flora and fauna.
  • Interact with indigenous communities and learn about their way of life.
  • Participate in night wildlife walks and stargazing.
  • Capture incredible photographs of the park’s unique wildlife and landscapes.

Day 11: Return to Cusco

  • Depart from Manu National Park and return to Cusco.
  • Spend your last evening in Cusco, perhaps savoring a traditional Peruvian meal.

Day 12: Departure

  • Depending on your flight schedule, you may have some free time in Cusco.
  • Depart from Cusco for your onward journey or return home.
